Vikram Varanasi founded Hopelink Initiative to expand stem cell donor awareness and registration. As Founder and President, he leads a growing network of youth ambassadors and student chapters that organize community drives with schools and local partners.
Every year, thousands of children and adults need a stem cell transplant to treat blood cancers and certain genetic disorders, and a matching donor is often their best chance at treatment. Yet donor registries still do not reflect the diversity of the communities they serve. Vikram believes no family’s chance of finding a match should be limited by a lack of awareness or representation. Today, volunteers act on that belief in the schools, universities, workplaces, cultural organizations and faith communities they belong to.

For many patients, finding a donor is a race against time. But the biggest challenge is there are not enough registered donors.
